I've been fortunate enough to secure some more graphic design work with a branch of Kallkwik. This is such good news, as I'm really getting back into my graphics work. So far I've designed a couple of business cards and flyers. I'll try and post them up within the graphics and illustration page, once a get  bit of free time. Cheers.

Over the last few years of designing objects I've really wrestled with the notion of how my design work fits into the real world. Is it sustainable, designed for mass production? etc, etc. Sometimes I've tried to force myself into a mode of thinking, such as designing sustainably with sustainable materials. This I felt, really limited my free-flow design process and felt disjointed in the process.

I've come to the conclusion that designing objects is my passion, and objects must fit in somewhere. I understand the need to design sustainably, but some manufacturing processes today are just as efficient and well managed as they ever could be and feel that they too can play a part in the future of design.

I've been busy creating some new designs for some house hold products. Currently keeping them under wraps until I can get some made up and photographed. When this will be, I'm currently not sure as making full size versions can be rather expensive :(

Hi. The design of my chair2bench is a contentious subject apparently! A post remarks that I'd copied somebody else's design in the first place. Not the case...selling myself short was I! My design actually allows the chair and bench to be placed into a stool to allow for easy storage or placed under a table. Find me a similar design in appearance that does all three modes of seating and I'm more than happy to throw my hands up! Maybe I should be calling my design, chair2bench2stool. Seems a bit long though. :)

It's been a while since my last entry. Where has the time gone! The last couple of months I've been doing some graphics work to pay the bills. Posters, letterheads, business cards etc, that kind of thing. I've also been working on some new designs for a coat hook, key rack and towel rail. The two coat hooks are so different in design. One is laser cut steel and the other made from timber, without any glue in its construction, a pure natural foam. Sometimes I think, "How do I come out with such different contrasts in material and design". My design work is definitely not pigeonholed!

Hopefully in time I would love to get these made up for sale. Some more graphics work to pay for it then.

Over the last couple of months I've been working on a new website. Its called material-resource.com and is intended to allow art and design students throughout the UK to access materials and processes in a clear and comprehensive, cost effective and responsible way. Several companies that I've approached have been very responsive to the idea which is very positive as the idea is something I've yet to find on the internet dedicated to art and design students.
